OKTOBERFEST CHEER IN THE BLUE MOUNTAINS

Bratwuerste, bretzels and beer are the order of the day at Peppers Fairmont Resort, Blue Mountains (NSW). On October 1st 2005, Peppers will launch its inaugural celebration of what has become the largest festival in the world - Oktoberfest.

When Crown Prince Ludwig married his fair Princess Therese of Saxony- Hildburghausen in 1810, the citizens of Munich celebrated with a festival on the fields by the city gates. Today, the good prince is the champion of beer-swillers the world over. Since the introduction of the first beer tent to the festivities in 1896, the Princess big day has long been forgotten. In true Bavarian spirit, consumption of the fine amber ale has become the focal point of celebrations now enjoyed all over the world.

Slip into your dirndl and prepare to burst your lederhosen as Peppers Fairmont Resort brings Oktoberfest to the Blue Mountains. Eat, drink and be very merry as Peppers transports you to a Munich beer hall complete with a resplendent feast and ever-flowing kegs of German beer.

The festivities commence at 3:30pm, with traditional Bavarian games and activities on the lawn. Compete against friends and family in nailing, sawing and dart-throwing challenges to work up the appetite and earn a cold, refreshing beer. At 5:00 pm food stalls and beer tents will burst to life, boasting bratwuerste, sauerkraut, weisswuerste and suckling pork. For those with a sweeter tooth there is zuckerwatte (fairy floss), lebkuchenherzen and, of course apple strudel.  Wash it all down with the many German beer varieties on offer, to be sampled in your own authentic beer stein.

German Consul General, Dr. Guenter Gruber, will officially open the event with the traditional tapping of the first keg. German Consul, Mr Gunter Plagmann will also be in attendance to oversee the proceedings. The Ballroom will be the site of the festivals entertainment, housing traditional musical group The Rhinelanders and lively folk dancing performances throughout the evening by Alpenlaendler Volkstanzgruppe.

Tickets to the Oktoberfest celebrations can be purchased at a cost of $95.00 inclusive of all German beer, including your own traditional beer stein, German food, soft drinks and entertainment. Additional costs apply for games, wine and spirits and some food stalls including fairy floss.

Peppers Fairmont Resort is also offering an accommodation package so that you can make Oktoberfest last all weekend long. Take in the beautiful view of the Jamison Valley and enjoy surrounding Blue Mountains attractions from $880.00 for two adults including 2 nights accommodation in a resort room, breakfast and tickets to Oktoberfest.

All prices are based on twin share accommodation, and are subject to availability. For bookings or more information, please contact Peppers Fairmont Resort on 02 4784 4144 or email fairmont@peppers.com.au .
