Perisher Blue Firing Up
With the onset of winter season 2005, Perisher Blue today fired up this week
for the first time its Village 8 Express snowguns. See photographs
below.
Temperatures were cold enough for small amounts of snow to settle
on Front Valley, a good sign that the ground conditions are already favourable
for snowmaking.
It is now just a little over a month until the season
officially commences on June 11th.
Perisher Blue is working feverishly on preparing
the slopes and all other resort operations in time for the opening weekend. The
resort is also expecting temperatures now to remain cold for natural snow to
develop and to enable man made snowmaking to be fully
operational.
Weather forecasters are predicting good natural snowfalls in
late May and into June, which should make a good start to the
season.
Opening weekend celebrations will be bigger than ever in 2005.
Gary Grant General Manager Marketing and Resort Services said that, “Perisher
Blue is planning this year to bring back the good old days when the opening
weekend had a party atmosphere in the resort.”
“It’s time that we brought
back the fun and festivities that opening weekends were renown for, something
that has been lost in most ski resorts over the past ten years or so”, continued
Mr. Grant.
Perisher Blue has a host of fun activities and entertainment
planned for the opening weekend. Indoor and outdoor performances around the
resort by acts including: Groove Alliance, Groover, Boy McLeod, the Gulaga
Dancers, the Glen Skulthorpe Duo and Mike Jackson (for the kids), plus a mix of
local buskers, will help to usher in the new winter.
Add fun activities
for children like face painting, clowns, a fire show, story telling, puppets,
kid’s ‘lucky dips’ and combine the traditional Blessing of the Snow, evening
fireworks, the Monaro Dance School and even massage therapy on snow, and the
resort will be alive with something for all.
