Enjoy Mud Massage and Moses Miracle in Korea

July is festival time in Korea when the city of Boryeong hosts its annual Mud Festival where visitors can enjoy mud massage, mud sliding, mud wrestling and the health benefits of the many products made from the mineral rich mud. At the same time an event known as Moses Miracle occurs further down the west coast.

The Boryeong Mud Festival is an exciting event all about mud and promises lots of fun events where locals and visitors alike can get covered in mud. The festival takes place for seven days from 16 to 22 July on the mud-flats of Daecheon Beach on Korea?s west coast.

The mud contains many of the principal ingredients that prevent skin from ageing such as natural minerals. The minerals found in mud lift impurities, leaving cleaner skin and a fresher younger complexion. Mud can also be used for exfoliation as well as being well known for the treatment of certain skin conditions.

Besides the health benefits the Boryeong Mud Festival is mostly about having as much fun as the saying goes ?as a pig in mud?. Enjoy a mud massage on the beach, the mud sliding and mud wrestling events as well as a mud beauty contest and a mud king contest.

Boryeong city offers lots of other attractions and you can enjoy a free shuttle bus tour which takes in Daecheon Beach, the Coal Museum, Stone Sculputre Park, Seongjusan Resort, the Mud Flats and Daecheon Harbour. Nearby Boryeong there are many small and large islands as well as 36 historic and cultural sites to explore.

Full details of the Boryeong Mud Festival can be found on the festival website www.mudfestival.or.kr and click on the English site.

The Jindo Sea-Parting Festival, known as Moses Miracle takes place from 22-24 July when a wide sandbar appears during low tide and creates a land bridge 2.8km long and 40km wide between the islands of Jindo and Modo.

Visitors are invited to take part in the numerous cultural programs including traditional dances, songs and folk games. The festival will also feature musical performances, shamanic rituals to expel evil spirits and numerous cultural programs including various traditional dances, songs and folk games.

Further information on both events is available from the Sydney office of Korea National Tourism Organization Email: visitkorea@knto.org.au or phone 1800 211 717 or 02)9252-4147
