Gecko's Leads Clean and Green. PDF Print E-mail

In a new initiative to help counter the world-wide scourge of plastic bags, Gecko's has produced new 'eco-bags' that all clients will receive before embarking on their travels. The unisex shoulder bags have been produced and co-branded with Clean Up the World and aim to encourage travellers to minimise their use of plastic shopping bags, particularly in the developing countries where Gecko's operates.

The bags are ideal for storing souvenirs and for taking belongings to the beach or around town - travellers can sling them over their shoulder, or wear them like a courier bag making them comfortable, commendable and 'cool'.

Plastic bags are an environmental disaster; they can last up to 1000 years, often ending up in our waterways and oceans, injuring and starving whales, turtles and seabirds.

Clean Up the World (CUW) is a global environmental campaign that inspires communities to clean up, fix up and conserve their local environment. Gecko's and CUW have joined forces on a series of Clean Up trips around the world, where trip participants spend a day assisting clean up efforts in places such as Mt Sinai, Angkor Wat and Mt Kilimanjaro.

Responsible Tourism is a key philosophy in all Gecko's operations. The company aims to provide clients with a more rewarding and fulfilling holiday while being culturally sensitive and minimising negative impacts on the environment.

So, as the bag says, 'wherever you go, say no to plastic bags!'
