Spicing it up in Sydney's Kings Cross PDF Print E-mail

Avid food enthusiasts will be in for a hot and spicy treat as Tourism Malaysia hosts a colourful ‘Malaysia Food Festival’ at the Bayview Boulevard in Kings Cross from 22nd May.

Director of Tourism Malaysia Sydney, Mr Shahrin Mokhtar, says the Festival will be a tasty opportunity to experience some of the true flavours of Malaysia while also enjoying the unique cultural shows.

“With more and more Australian travellers visiting Malaysia each year, food and cultural fairs such as this also serve as great reasons to revisit for those who may have been to the country before but and missed its amazing diverse cuisine,” says Shahrin.

“Malaysia’s cuisine is symbolic of the nation’s beginnings. It truly reflects the eclectic mix of culture that defines the country. This is something that can’t be found in, or said of, any other country.

“For example, Baba Nyonya resulted from an assimilation of Chinese traditions and flavours into the Malay culture, spices and language. And the influences of both cultures are very evident in their dishes.

“The Festival fair will introduce diners to many famous Malaysian dishes, taking them on a gastronomical journey that is so Malaysia.

The event will be graced by cultural dance performances on the weekends to give diners an entertaining glimpse into Malaysia’s graceful society. Also, children under the age of five will eat for free!

A competition to win tickets for two to Malaysia will be drawn at the end of the fair. Winners will fly to Penang to fully experience Malaysian hospitality, food and culture, courtesy of Tourism Malaysia, Bayview Beach Resort Penang and Malaysia Airlines.

The Food and Cultural Fair will take place from 22nd May - 1 June 2007:
