Sun Princess Becomes Largest Cruise Ship to Visit the Kimberley
Princess Cruises has sailed into Australian cruise history with Sun Princess becoming the largest cruise ship to enter the scenic Kimberley region during her latest Northern Explorer voyage.
On Wednesday April 30, the ship entered York Sound in the Kimberley, before anchoring in Prince Frederick Harbour off the Bonaparte Archipelago, where passengers witnessed a spectacular sunrise over Manning Peak.
Carrying 1950 passengers and 900 crew, the Sun Princess continued its journey through the Buccaneer Archipelago, surrounded by hundreds of islands, before reaching Broome.
Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia which operates Princess Cruises in Australia, said the company was very proud to be the first to take a superliner into the Kimberly.
“It’s an amazing destination - and a great example of how a cruise ship can take you easily to an area which would be otherwise difficult to reach.”
Sun Princess will visit the Kimberley region again during the 18-night Northern Explorer voyage departing Fremantle on August 25 2009, with fares priced from $3440* per person twin share.
The 77,000-tonne Sun Princess is the first premium ship and the largest superliner to be based in Australia full time. Stretching 261 metres, her facilities include eight restaurants and cafes, seven lounges and bars, a spa and fitness centre, state-of-the-art theatre and four pools.
