2007 NSW Tourism Awards Announced
NSW Minister for Tourism, Matt Brown last night announced the winners at the State’s premiere tourism night, the NSW Tourism Awards.
Mr Brown hosted the gala event for more than 700 members of the NSW tourism industry at Sydney’s Star City Hotel and Casino.
“The NSW Tourism Awards recognise the professionalism of our industry as well as its value to this State,” Mr Brown said.
“It’s a $23 billion a year business that’s bigger than either farming or mining. It employs one in 12 people directly and indirectly in NSW and is a vital part of our economy.
“Having the NSW Tourism Awards is a great incentive for businesses to be innovative and strive for best in a really competitive industry.”
“Congratulations to the winners on their outstanding achievements. These are fantastic results and demonstrate the quality of NSW tourism,” Mr Brown said.
Winners were decided by judges nominated by the tourism industry. Entrants are judged on business and marketing plans and are awarded for business excellence.
“This year the judges received 204 nominations in 29 categories, 36 more nominations than last year,” Mr Brown said.
“All of the national category winners will represent the State at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards on February 29, in Canberra.
“The quality of this year’s winners will undoubtedly encourage more people to visit our State, supporting the NSW Government’s State Plan goals for tourism.”
Mr Brown also presented two Ministerial Certificates of Appreciation. Romano’s Hotel at Wagga Wagga was awarded for an outstanding Pubstay experience and Ted Wilson, former Chairman of the Inland Tourism Awards (INTA) received a certificate for his commitment and dedication to regional tourism.
The 2007 NSW Tourism Awards are managed in partnership by Tourism NSW and the Tourism Industry Council NSW, which coordinates the judging process.
