The Overland - $4 Million Facelift And Ready to Roll!

The maiden voyage of the new look Overland service, Australia’s longest running interstate passenger train, will depart Adelaide bound for Melbourne on Monday 7th May 2007.

The $4 million upgrade of the carriages on The Overland includes new seating with generous leg room, modern relaxing carriage interior, new amenities and a stylish café carriage.

Tony Braxton-Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Great Southern Railway said, “The refurbishment enables us to offer the best in modern train service standards. Guests can sit back in a comfortable and relaxing environment and enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way, arriving at their destination in time for dinner”.

“The Overland has always been an economical, comfortable and convenient way to travel between Adelaide and Melbourne, and we have made it even greater value. For the launch of the ‘new look’ service, Great Southern Railway is offering an introductory $99 return fare between these two great cities”, he added.

For just $99 return guests can enjoy the new ultra comfy reclining seats, with plenty of leg room, a relaxing environment and lots to see out of the window. The introductory special offer is for travel until 31 December 2007 for bookings made by 30 June 2007.

Two levels of service are available on the newly refurbished train; Red Service and Red Premium Service. The seating design and spacing delivers greater plenty of room equivalent to or better than a domestic business class airlines, a road coach or the back seat of a family sedan, making it one of the most comfortable ways to travel this route.

The Overland departs Adelaide passing through Murray Bridge, Bordertown, Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Ararat and Geelong along the way every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.25 am arriving in Melbourne at 6.40 pm.

The return service departs Melbourne every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7.35 am arriving in Adelaide at 6.10 pm on Tuesday and Saturday and 7.15 pm on Thursdays.
