Gypsy Falls

Lush green pastures, winding, tree lined country roads and rustic wooden bridges embraced by ancient river gums are the scenic prelude to Gypsy Falls Retreat – a very special getaway for couples on the north coast of NSW.

Gypsy Falls Retreat combines contemporary country charm, nature’s majesty and an attention to luxurious detail in two spacious cottages nestled on a very private property at Lorne, 40 mins north of Taree.

Owner /operators Cheryl and Graham have created their dream – a dream that is readily embraced by discerning adults seeking rest, relaxation, and luxury in a stress free, child free, uncluttered and very private country location.

Expansive lawns and clever placement of  gardens and trees maximise guest privacy between the two cottages called Azure and Moondarra, while the surrounding forests and cascading waterfall have for centuries created a natural barrier around this magic place.

Guests can choose to stay totally enveloped in their luxurious cottage for the entire stay (there’s a local lady who can deliver home cooked meals daily).

Or, if they choose perhaps bump into the other retreating couple at the elevated swimming pool, in the outdoor games room with pool table, around the outdoor barbecue and bonfire pit or wistfully idle in a hammock perfectly placed in the rustic “Hurricane Hut” atop the private waterfall that plummets into a natural pool 40 metres below.

This place oozes character and care. Graham and Cheryl are collectors of beautiful things, conversation starters and experiences that all unfold in the décor and design throughout the property and their on-site home.

The antique hand basins and toilet bowls in both cottages are from songstress, Julie Anthony’s Sydney home. There’s an antique red phone box in the garden,  historical photos and plaques in the games room,  stairs from the Mark Foys department store, windows from Oxford Street’s infamous Rogues nightclub and much more.

Claw foot bathtubs in both Moondarra and Azure are beautifully located beneath large windows that open onto private outdoor balconies overlooking the surrounding rainforest.

You want for nothing in these cottages. Everything is there for a long or short stay –smart leather lounges, soft sofa rugs, remote control television and VCR’s and video library, a music system, fans, and a magnificently appointed kitchen where guests have the option of preparing their own meals.

However, if  its coffee you want these two are renowned for their coffee making skills, making some of the best coffee in the region on their 1952 Bo-ema coffee machine.

The décor in both cottages is an eclectic mix of old and new graced with some fabulous wood finishes courtesy of historic buildings and the surrounding forests.

Cheryl’s gentle attention to detail is evident in the spotlessly clean rooms, the luxurious locally made  complimentary bath oils, soaps and creams and many other special touches that make Azure and Moondarra instantly welcoming and comfortable.

As one witty guest remarked “You haven’t got everything – I couldn’t find an apple corer.”

“There is nothing quite like rain on a tin roof and no better place to enjoy it than in a warm bath overlooking the bush,” wrote another couple.

If you love bird and wildlife there is an abundance of it to be enjoyed at Gyspy Falls either from the comfort of your cottage balcony or during bushwalks around the property punctuated with quiet places to stop, sit, rest and contemplate.

For those who want to get out and about, but not journey too far,  there is the neighbouring Lorne Macadamia Farm and café or a short, scenic drive to the the Comboyne Plateau with its cafés, curiosity shops, and local club.

For theatre, cinema, restaurants and a little more action visit either Laurieton or the thriving regional centre of Port Macquarie  just 45 minutes drive from Gypsy Falls.

Great Value Packages: A Two Night Weekend Package $450 including  accommodation on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights, a generous breakfast hamper, complimentary latte by the waterfall on arrival, afternoon or morning tea to the value of $20 at a local café, and welcome sparking wine and chocolates.
