Pensioner's hearing returns on skiing trip
A pensioner who had been deaf for 15 years got his hearing back on a skiing trip.
Derek Glover, 72, was descending from 7,000ft in a cable car when his
ears "popped" and he was hit by an "incredible wave" of noise.
Derek from Bourne, Lincolnshire, has thrown away his two hearing aids.
Experts believe that a sudden change in air pressure may explain the return of his hearing.
According to the Daily Express Derek said: "I kept quiet at first when
we got home because I thought my hearing loss would return. But a nurse
examined my ears and found they were fine. My hearing has improved
massively, and I don't need my hearing aids any more." |

Relief for man who lost wife's $1m purse
A Canadian man lost his wife's designer purse - containing $1,000,000 worth of jewellery - on holiday in California.
But a local man found the purse where he left it, on a park bench, and
handed it in to police, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Shahla Ghannadian cried for most of the way home to Toronto after husband Said Khalili lost the purse in Sausalito.
The designer purse contained her Cartier watch, diamond and ruby rings,
pearl earrings, necklaces with large diamond stones and $500 cash. In
total, it was worth US$1 million, the equivalent of £575,000.
But then they got a phone call from Sausalito police saying the purse
had been found and handed in by John Suhrhoff, from nearby San Rafael.
"My mom started to cry again and my dad became very emotional, too,"
said the couple's 28-year-old son, Ali Khalili. "That was a big deal.
There are still good people in this world."
Mr Suhrhoff said: "Every person I know or associate with would have done the same thing. I'm glad to be able to help." |

Europe's biggest rail station has only one toilet

Operators of Europe's largest railway station have admitted their mistake in building only one set of toilets.
Passengers at Berlin's new £480m train station have already been complaining about the queues for the loos.
About 30,000 people use the new multi-level station each day and it has also attracted visits from shoppers and tourists.
Station spokesman Holger Auferkamp admitted the lack of washroom facilities was a problem, in particular for women.
"We realise there is a problem and are now planning to build a second set of toilets as quickly as possible," he said. |

Einstein's theory of boarding aeroplanes
Researchers have used Einstein's theory or relativity to find the most efficient way for passengers to board an aeroplane.
And they have concluded that the time honoured method of boarding by seat numbers is a waste of time, reports the Sun.
Dr
Eitan Bachmat, of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, says
airlines would be better off following the example of low-cost carriers
who let passengers sit where they like.
Dr Bachmat said:
"Back-to-front boarding is bad because it is designed for
cardboard-thin passengers, or for the spacious surroundings of the
first-class compartment.
"But there is no need to play with the rows. It doesn't matter which rows get on first."
Dr Bachmat stumbled accross the theory when researching how to make computers run quicker.
He said: "It dawned on us that we could use the same geometry that appears in relativity theory." |
